![]() While story beats are not obviously spelled out, the setup allows for a lot of creative weapons, enemies, obstacles, and areas to battle hordes of cultists in. The Switch version certainly doesn't underperform here, making DUSK the October highlight of this year.ĭUSK consists of three campaign chapters that follow the story of a lone figure fighting a satanic cult. It turns out that DUSK's attempt to resurrect traditional DOOM and Quake is one that deserves to be noticed and played. But of course, the thirty-year cycle shall spin forevermore, and it seems like it's the dawn of a new retro revival era. While a lot of games have released over the last ten years that have completely embraced the visual aesthetics of the ‘80s with gorgeous 8, 16, and 32-bit graphics, it was surprising to me that the era of the leap to 3D still remained somewhat untouched. At least, that's what the current wave of retro-inspired indie games would have you believe. Sorry for the rant, I have been thinking about this particular thing a lot recently and just wanted an outlet lol.Everything old is new again. Just the idea of the games I bought on it being forever locked to the Switch (Nintendo bad track record with backwards compatibilty) makes me reluctant. I completed 112% Hollow Knight on it, and have had a really good time overall with it. That does not mean the experience on Switch handheld is not great. ![]() The idea of just buying a game on PC once and having access to them from most PC-like devices, mod support, synced saves between devices, legacy/backwards compatibility has soured me on getting indies or non-exclusives on Switch. Your experience may vary but I have slowly shifted to using the Switch solely for exclusives, especially with the Steam Deck coming. I am primarily on PC as well and also have a Switch. ![]() Comes with a level editor and people have already made quite a few awesome levels. The way enemies get torn up, their blood covering walls, the audio and visual feedback, it's all excellent. Prodeus: Closer to a classic Doom experience, this game doesn't do anything particularly new but it feels great and kicks ass. Much like Hades, this is pre-emptively my game of the year whenever it releases. The music is fucking phenomenal, on par with Dusk and Doom 2016 with a huge range of styles including heavy metal, breakbeat, classical, and noise rock. A boomer shooter that takes cues from Devil May Cry and Doom Eternal, emphasizing style, tons of complex mechanics, and utilizing every one of your tools to survive and kick ass. Ultrakill: This is a must play and my most anticipated FPS. Huge maps that take 40+ minutes to explore, punchy weapons, and some neat RPG mechanics that add just enough variety without bogging down the fast-paced action.
